Its all in the message
For 40+ years the Republicans have had the lead on messaging, this weekend flipped the narrative.
When I was deciding what I wanted to call my podcast, my friend and I came up with Hexing the Narrative (currently on spotify..btw đ). We chose that because it really fits with what I wanted to create, a spiritually based news podcast. I was/am tired of the narrative being controlled by legacy media and felt like there was a void that needed to be filled. Clearly I am correct, because the blog, and podcast gain new follows, reads, and likes. I do have a theatrical background and have done mass comm before so I wasnât concerned that my messaging would be off, I know how to sell poop to a pig farmer and ice to an Alaskan. In other words, Iâm a darn good communicator.
This is in direct opposition to the political party I am registered with. The Democratic party has been woefully bad at messaging. Clinton and Obama are outliers. Out of the past 60 or so years thatâs all the dems have been able to put on the big stage. Now to be fair, misogyny and racism had a lot to do with the Clinton and Harris campaigns. Their messaging wasnât bad, per se but the narrative got away from them. Partially, I believe because of those pesky issues that Americanâs canât seem to deal with. So bottom line is, the dems are bad at messaging.
Luckily for the Democrats, Mango Mussoliniâs policies are so incredibly terrible, they are hard to spin. He will always have that small base of people who are afraid theyâre losing something to âthe otherâ. But beyond that, heâs losing the plot. Even his sycophantic propaganda peddlers on faux news are having a hard time. Nothing proves this point better than two instances that happened this weekend past.
First, the 250th anniversary of the Armed Forces celebration was hijacked by the cavalcade of corrupt kooks and second, they went up against the one thing that holds this country together (for better or worse), a good looking heterosexual, non-melaninated, penis carrier; yup, they went up against Gavin Newsom. The juxtaposition between Gavin and the poorly done up pretend-a-president is not only striking its laughable.
If his royal mangoness, had just kept his big trap shut and allowed the military to have their day, I have no doubt that there would have been some kind of special nod to him for his birthday. But no, he couldnât just let things be and per usual when he gets involved, the situation doesnât work. Many of us have friends and family who have served. I have several people in my life that were/are part of the military; in fact I have my maternal grandfatherâs paperwork on my pc. There would have been a brilliant celebration if it was for our troops, but alas that was not to be, and as Gov. Newsom said âTrump's parade is nothing more than a vulgar demonstration of just how weak he is.â
Since inauguration day, dumpy has been saying that June 14th was a celebration of him. He planned to have the tanks roll down the streets of the historic DC area, offered tickets and pushed his meme coins, to celebrate. This has been about him from the jump. Forget the 250 years of service and protection, forget the families who lost loved ones in defense of the country or the ones still alive, who wish they werenât because of what theyâve been through. Nah, why be good to those, what did trump call them âsuckers and losersâ, yeah why worry about them? The message was clear from the beginning; this is an authoritarian style, military parade, for the faux dear leader.
The message came across and sliced through the country in an inexplicable way. Finally, there was a small crack in the wall of idiocy. The red hats are all about the military, guns, Americana, and celebrating them. So when it first started to spill out into the redhatosphere that doge and the muskrats were going to cut funding from the VA, that the hard fought for benefits for tar pit survivors, and the parade being changed from a celebration of our military might, the redhats began to question if their god-king was really looking out for them.
I guess the past 10 years of being used as pawns and being mercilessly decimated both economically and physically wasnât enough. But whatever, Iâll take it.
Cut to last weeks ICE kidnappings and the incursion of National Guard into L.A. and the stage was set for a rebranding of the message. As Dr. Seuss said âOh what a rebranding it wasâ or something like that. The American people took the âNo Kingsâ protest ideas and revamped them. It became about more than just saying, no dumdum we donât have kings.
Taking on the military industrial complex is heavy work, but the people figured out how to message it just right. We called in the elders, the military men and women who served and have since retired. We called in the old guard, the original ANTIFA WW2 vets and we called in the contemporaries who have lost their benefits and are in jeopardy of losing so much more. The message went from âus vs the militaryâ to , listen to the ones who came before you. The hotline was opened for current members to call if they wanted to disobey orders but didnât know how or if it was even possible. Then Gavin Newsom stepped center stage.
The Governor of California took on the federal government. He promised to sue them for overreach in calling up the stateâs national guard. He didnât just go after the government, he specifically named hegseth and dumpy. This unbelievably stupid idea, to send in the troops, helped to catapult Newsomâs, arguably already high, approval rating. Newsom is not new to this, he is a politician through and through and the people of Cali are quick to tell you they have a love/hate relationship with him.
Newsom is famous for âclearing outâ encampments, pushing taxes, and doing what he thinks is right even if it pisses everyone around him off. But, on the other hand, they love that heâll step in and fight for them every time. He showed up on the tarmac to meet dumpy during the fires, he was out on the airwaves as soon as he heard about the raids and kidnappings. He went on the most popular podcast in the country (the meidas touch network) and held a primetime speech. He takes and gives no fucks, and againâŚ.he is good looking.
That narrative took hold and became the fulcrum needed to tip the scales. All of a sudden it was what Newsom was saying and how he was saying it that dominated the social media political space. Memes, videos, snippets and conversations were all about how Newsom and L.A. were going to save the country. They drowned out the noise of the redhat echo chamber. They made legacy media have to pay attention and broadcast it. The message was no longer, what will bargain basement TACO in chief do next. It was how do we harness this energy of rebellion and fierceness that we the people are feeling and that Gov. Newsom is the avatar for?
We might just make it through with a little less pain than I thought. And we owe it all to people who finally took the reigns off us, mouthy types. Messaging wins wars.
